CBN Governor Under Fire By Lawmakers

CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele

The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Godwin Emefiele, is under serious fire by the lawmakers of the country. This is as a result of the Naira policies he has made following the redesign of the new Naira notes, including the 200, 500, and 1000 naira notes.  Since its design, there has been lots of backlash from Nigerian lawmakers and also from the general public. Many have complained about the futile nature of redesigning the higher denominations of the naira notes. On the streets, many people have this to say: "D rison y dem redesign the naira note sef, dem no fit achieve am." "D pipo wey dey thief our moni, dem no fit catch them," as spoken in the local pigin English dialect, spoken by many people in Nigeria. Godwin Emefiele has since received invitations to the National Assembly to further validate with substantial reasons the new policy that entails certain restrictions on the deposit and withdrawal of the new Naira notes, which is set to take effect by the end of January 2023.  We hope that the incessant backlash that Mr Godwin Emefiele is receiving from Nigerian lawmakers will yield a positive result that is not political but beneficial to the Nigerian people in the end.
